Are you a freelance instructor? Want to make a difference to young people?
At Outward Bound, associate instructors play a key part in our success, not only technically qualified but dedicated and enthusiastic individuals. Their knowledge, instruction and expert guidance make a real difference to the lives of young people, helping them to realise what they are capable of achieving in life.

Locations: Aberdovey, Wales; Ullswater, Cumbria; Eskdale, Cumbria and Loch Eil, Scotland.
Salary: £126-£225 per day (depends on your qualifications, experience and the type of course we ask you to deliver - from primary schools to graduates).
Here's what qualifications you'll need...
To be an instructor at Outward Bound you will need to have passed (as a minimum) an assessment in two of the three NGB qualifications listed below and completed training in the other. You'll also need appropriate experience:
- Summer Mountain Leader Award
- Single Pitch Award or Rock Climbing Instructor
- BC Paddlesport Leader Award; or Paddlesport Instructor plus Canoe award; or equivalent previously recognised awards
All instructors at Outward Bound must also have:
- A full driving licence (preferably including D1 entitlement)
- A valid First Aid Certificate.
We will also ask you to demonstrate your practical ability to safely deliver personal development courses to young people.
If we offer you any freelance work, you'll be asked to undertake an enhanced disclosure under the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity that helps young people defy their limitations through learning and adventures in the wild. We need instructors who have previous experience in this type of role, who have a real passion for the outdoors and an enthusiasm to help others.
