Why Outward Bound?

Your summer. Seven days at Ullswater. One Wild Adventure.

We've joined forces with Dulux Academy to deliver a unique Outward Bound adventure on 17 - 23 August 2019 at Ullswater - are you up for the challenge?

Away from the distractions of everyday life, you'll go on a life-shaping adventure where you'll reach outside your comfort zone and explore your talents.

You'll pitch your tent under the stars, conquer mountains with your mates, paddle across lakes and explore the wild. Taking you on a journey where you'll achieve more than you think.

If you're a school leaver aged 16-19 and either of these sound familiar, then absolutely!

• You have an interest in taking your first steps towards developing a new skill.

*This adventure is fully funded by the Dulux Brighter Futures programme and you don't need any previous Outward Bound experience.

What you'll be doing:

With activities like gorge scrambling, rock climbing, hiking and canoeing you'll make the most of natures playground.

A dedicated instructor will be there for you the whole time, offering encouragement when you need it most and help if things get tough.

You'll get to experience an overnight expedition where you'll camp in the wild, either in a mountain hut, a tent or bivvying under the stars.

We'll also have everything covered for you, meaning all your food, accommodation, kit, equipment, 24-hour pastoral care and comprehensive insurance is sorted.

What is the Dulux Brighter Future Programme?

The programme is designed to bring employees and schools together in order to help young people become better prepared for work.

It is also an opportunity for students with a keen interest in pursuing further development to apply for a pre-apprenticeship training programme with Dulux.

The aims of the programme include:

• Providing a platform for young people to take the first steps into developing a skill that will lead to work
• Giving young people hope, self-belief and opportunity
• Providing opportunities to those who would not normally receive them
• Inspiring and motivating young people about the world of work
• Showcasing the Dulux academy and career opportunities in painting and decorating.

The small print:

Terms and conditions

This adventure is fully funded by the Dulux Brighter Futures programme and is worth £549.

We ask successful applicants to contribute £50 towards this wherever possible, in order to demonstrate commitment.

This also includes a free return bus journey from Penrith train station to Ullswater.

For students who would like to take up the offer of an apprenticeship afterwards, you will need to find an employer to sponsor you. Dulux will try to help via their decorating network but please note we cannot guarantee this.

Any applications that we do receive will also be shared with the donor (Dulux) to evidence that we are supporting young people who will genuinely benefit from this opportunity.
