The 5% Club
At Outward Bound we're passionate about developing young people. And so it was a natural step for us to join The 5% Club, an industry led initiative focused on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
The 5% Club, initiated by Leo Quinn CEO of Balfour Beatty in 2013, is a movement of more than 300 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies who join The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. For Outward Bound this means continuing to invest in our Graduate Trainee Instructor Scheme and developing an apprenticeship programme.
The importance of skills development
In July 2019, The 5% Club asked GSK and Outward Bound to present at their Developing Apprentices Beyond their Apprenticeships event co-hosted by the Ministry of Defence.
We were proud to share how, by working in partnership, Outward Bound build life skills and contribute to the development of apprentices and young people.
